Institutional Effectiveness at Kanawha Valley Community & Technical College encompasses the functions of institutional research and non-academic assessment initiatives (i.e. assessment of administrative operations.) The Special Assistant to the President serves as the institutional effectiveness officer. As such, she is responsible for institutional research in support of management decision-making processes, all state and federal statistical reports, monitoring institutional-level assessment measures and reporting on the completion of strategies listed in the Strategic Plan.
To execute these responsibilities, the Special Assistant produces reports such as the Compact Submission Update for Target 2010 Report, KVCTC Fact Book and ACT Work Keys Skill Assessment Report. The information obtained from these tools is shared with KVCTC administrators and the faculty as part of a feedback system. These data promote organizational planning for institutional improvement of the college’s programs. It is important to note that the placement of institutional effectiveness activities in the president’s office further encourages the use and thoughtful consideration of information.
Complimenting the institutional effectiveness activities of the Special Assistant is the KVCTV Outcomes Assessment Committee which also provides aspects of institutional evaluation. This Committee is responsible for evaluating ongoing assessment processes which are used to form institutional strategies for continuous program improvement.
